Verdict: Misleading! Senator Moye's vehicle did not hit anyone.
Full text: Senator Prince K. Moye won a two-term representative post for Bong County District #2, Bong County (2011-2020).
In 2020, he contested the special senatorial election in Bong and won. On January 14, 2025, journalist Edwin Khakie of Voice of Bong posted on his Facebook page claiming that Bong County Senator Prince K. Moye's vehicle hit a young man on 15th Street in Sinkor-Monrovia.
The post drew the public’s attention, especially those from Bong County. About 99% of the comments under the post are against journalist Khakie. Some of the commenters are senatorial staff and former staff. screenshot of the post
Verification: To verify this claim, we cross-checked local news outlets and real-time traffic reporting officers for any accident involving Moye’s car hitting a young man as claimed by the journalist.
We also checked print, broadcast, and online platforms but did not see any information of such within that period. No police reports or press releases about an accident involving Moye were found.
In Liberia, social media, particularly Facebook, is often an immediate source of eyewitness reports. We searched Facebook and Instagram for any posts or videos related to the incident. While there were some social media posts referencing accidents in the area, none provided confirmation or direct evidence linking Moye to the 15th Street accident, as reported by the journalist.
Stage Media also contacted the office of Senator Moye to verify this claim. Nuwoe Kellen, Moye’s chief of office staff, said at no point did the senator’s official vehicle or any of his cars hit someone.
Kellen said the senator was at the capitol building and his car was parked that day.
We also contacted journalist Khakie to share his source with us; however, the journalist shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation believed to be between him and Bong County District #3 Representative Josiah Marvin Cole.
In the conversation, there is a text also believed to be from Rep. Cole that reads: “Sen. Moye's car just killed this young man on 15th Street a few minutes ago,” and Journalist Khakie replied, “Okay, Chief.”
We also called journalist Khakie, who told us that he verified what Representative Cole told him. He further claimed that a staff member from Senator Moye’s office shared the information with him but withheld the identity of the individuals from our researcher.
Three days later, we again contacted the journalist for further information about his post but he refused to comment.
Rep. Cole has not answered our calls for the past four days. When he does this, the check will be updated.
Conclusion: Based on a thorough investigation, the claim that Senator Moye’s car hit a
young man on 15th Street on January 14, 2025, is false. There is no credible evidence or reliable source to support this claim, and no incident involving Senator Moye has been reported by police, traffic officers, local news outlets, authorities, or the senator's office.
