Verdict: Fake, the two links that Orange and Lonestar are rewarding Christmas presents are Fake; They are Scams.
Full Text:Lonestar Cell MTN and Orange are the two countries' largest providers of communications services.
Lonestar was launched in 2001 and is part of the MTN Group – a multinational telecommunications group, which operates in 19 countries in Africa and the Middle East.
While Orange began when the global telecom giant Orange acquired Cellcom Liberia in 2016, rebranding it to drive digital inclusion, Cellcom Liberia was founded in 2004, starting as a key player in Liberian telecom.
In a widely circulated link, it is claimed that the Lonestar is giving people a chance to get LD$50,000 through a questionnaire as MTN Mobile Money Christmas Gift.
A similar claim is circulated about Orange gifting Christmas through its mobile money service.
According to Crosswalk, Christmas is a cherished annual Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. It is a time-honored tradition observed on December 25th among Christians worldwide. The origins of this date can be traced back to ancient times, with its association dating back to A.D. 273. Interestingly, the historical significance of December 25th intersects with two pagan festivals that honored the sun. Some historical accounts suggest that the choice of December 25th for Christmas was deliberate, aiming to counteract the influence of these pagan celebrations.
Verification: We contacted both Orange and Lonestarcell MTN via their official Facebook page and WhatsApp, and they denied the claims.
Lonestar replied simply by saying “No” to our inquiry during verification, while Orange stated that there is nothing like this from Orange Money Liberia. It's Fake."
We also reviewed the both companies' Social Media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram pages page and found out that the circulated posts about the announcement of Y’ello Santa commencement for 2025 on November 5, 2025, with all the instructions, and another post announcing the closure of submissions on November 18, 2025. We did not find anything regarding people going through a questionnaire via a link to stand a chance to win LD$50,000, as stated in the circulated link.
For Orange, it has several promotions, including this, but we found no post related to the circulated claim.
Our research further under several red-flagged:
The link uses a suspicious domain(ile.ipidx.xyz) rather than Orange's and Lonestar's official website.
No official announcement on both companies' verified social media channels.
Companies directly denied the claim when contacted.
Conclusion: The claim that Lonestar is offering LD$50,000 Christmas gift and Orange is gifting through Orange Money is a scam, beware, do not fall for it.
