Full-text: On January 22, 2025, CDC HUB, an online blog, posted that Eugene L. Fahngon, the Director-General of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), received a new 2025 Land Cruiser vehicle and it arrived at the Freeport of Monrovia.
This post attracted 272 reactions, 227 comments, and 43 shares as of the time of the check.
Fahngon is currently serving as the Director-General at LBS and previously held the position of Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs at the Ministry of Information Culture Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) during former President George Weah’s administration.
The Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), established in 1960, is a state-owned media network that transitioned from private ownership (Rediffusion, London) to government management in 1968.
Verification: To verify this claim, we reached out to CDC-HUB via Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp for further details about their claim. Our efforts were unsuccessful as there was no response.
We also contacted Fahngon for clarification; he responded, “Absolutely, not true; it says CDC HUB. What do you expect?”
To further substantiate the claim, we identified Zurich Motors Mombasa, a car dealership located in Mombasa, Kenya, known for offering high-quality and affordable car deals. On January 20, 2025, they shared a similar photo posted by CDC HUB.
Conclusion: Based on our investigation, the claim regarding Fahngon’s 2025 Land Cruise vehicle arriving on January 22, 2025, is misleading.
As of the time of the check, there is no documentary evidence supporting that the vehicle belongs to the LBS Director-General.
